Brookfield Farm Rapeseed oil
From our farm to your kitchen, the story.
Sown in September, this brassica plant survives through the cold, wet winter. Pigeons try to feast on the soft green leaves.
In Spring it is warm enough, the plants start growing and vivid yellow flowers appear. Beehives are put in to encourage flowering.
By June it’s taller than the children running through. By August, all the flowers are turned to seedpods with tiny black oil seeds. Time for the harvest! Millions of seeds are harvested from the fields. The seeds are carefully crushed. A mechanical cold press produces extra virgin oil. An Irish grown vegetable oil, local food with a delicious flavour and lots of uses.
