What is Field Exchange

Field Exchange is a dynamic initiative designed to enhance the dialogue between agriculture and creativity, fostering safe discussions for progressive change in farming. Our Mission is to help agricultural and rural communities understand the impacts of climate change and support their transition to sustainable practices.

Our project brings together a community of practice across several ‘Exchange Days’ to address the biodiversity crisis. It also features agroforestry demonstration programmes and dry stone walling training.
The public is invited to the Field Exchange Festival—Creative Agriculture for Thriving Communities on Brookfield Farm, 31 August—1 September 2024. Here, we will showcase what we learned from the field exchanges.

There will be the Visual Arts opening, music performances, feasting, craft demonstrations, workshops, discussions, farm walks, guest speakers and more!

2024-2025 Field Exchange

Field Exchange 2024-2025 is our ambitious 2-year project structured around two agricultural creativity festivals with artists working with farmers and technical partners.

We will be working in collaboration with artists Ackroyd and Harvey, the Company of Trees, Elements of Action, the Irish Agroforestry Forum, and Dry Stone Wall Association of Ireland – one of 43 projects taking place all around the country funded by the Creative Climate Action fund through Creative Ireland. Our Public Field Exchange Festival takes place on Brookfield Farm, 31st August – 1st September 2024.

2022-2023 Field Exchange

The 2022 Field Exchange program at Brookfield Farm successfully united over 500 participants, including farmers, artists, and technical experts, to share insights into organic and sustainable agriculture.

Launched by Sabina Higgins and closed by Minister Catherine Martin, the four-month initiative covered 12 themes on practical organic farming solutions. We sparked a strong desire among participants for deeper, ongoing exchanges and a more connected network within the farming community and the general public.

Artworks

The Field Exchange project collaborates with artists in each iteration. Our site-specific art installations and performances during festival days aim to meaningfully engage the public on the issues of creative sustainability using innovative nature-led approaches to climate change.

These artworks are a wonderful local attraction for tourists and visitors to experience a beautiful regenerative farm in the Irish countryside.
